Mushroom Farming in North Carolina

Welcome to the 2014 New Year for shiitake farming!

The annual North Carolina A & T State University shiitake mushroom
workshop is scheduled for February 14, 2014.

Time: 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Venue: University Farm, Plant and Soil Extension, 2909 McConnell Rd.

Greensboro, NC 27401.

Each participant should bring 2 to 4 freshly cut oak logs (from live trees)
for inoculation. Make sure logs are cut down 2 weeks before workshop.

Note: Only logs from oak or sweetgum are acceptable at this time.

Dimension: 4-8 inches diameter x 4 feet long

Farmers in the program who are already in mushroom production can
place an order for spawn with their county extension agents. Spawn will
be ready as from Mid February.

New farmers can get spawn only if they will inoculate a minimum of
two hundred (200) logs. New farmers will only be given spawn after
they have attended one of the shiitake workshops for 2014.

***We will collaborate with county extension agents to make sure
farmers have the amount of logs requested, tools and equipment
available before receiving spawn.

Other workshops will be held off campus locations. Dates, times, and
locations for workshops are listed on the 2014 Shiitake Mushroom
Workshops schedule.

We are here to work with you to become a successful shiitake farmer!!
