This farm is no longer available for 2020, but could be for 2021.

Steven Stedillie and family, of Yancey County NC,  are excited to announce they are now taking applications to rent their farm for the 2020 season (and beyond)! Are you ready to run and manage your own produce farm / market garden business? Do you have ample experience managing a farm operation? Do you want to live and work near beautiful Asheville and Burnsville, North Carolina? If you answered yes to all of the above they want to hear from you! Their farm is situated on 4.5 acres 30 min north of Asheville and is fully developed. The farm is fully irrigated with drip and overhead (both in the high tunnels and outside). High tunnels are 14’x100, and there are about 100 beds outside in 4 ‘blocks’, averaging around 70′ long (30″ wide). They have just about everything you’ll need to get going including a walk-behind tractor BCS with implements, hand tools, irrigation, fertigation, a pack house, small greenhouse (10×10′), and walk-in cooler. Implements include a flame weeder, 6-row seeder, jang 1-row seeder, quick cut greens harvester, and all the hand tools you would likely need. The pack house has a 10×12′ walk-in cooler, 2 drying tables with fans, an outside root washing table, bubbler sink, and green spinner. The workshop is also fitted with a bunch of cabling to hang and dry herbs, etc.

You will need dedication to your craft of growing organic food and a serious work ethic. A team of two or more people would be necessary, possibly a couple duo? There is a camper trailer on premises that can be used temporarily or permanently, depending on your needs and preference. The camper trailer is 24′ and has a queen bed, bath/shower, toilet, stove, oven, fridge, and freezer. It’s tight but doable for 1-2 people. It has A/C. They have some buyers lined up for you already, whom they have been selling to for several years, but you will likely need to expand these sales channels and find more buyers for your products. The rent is $1,000/month. If you’re interested please send your resume, any questions and any other pertinent info to treehousefamilyfarm@gmail.com The application process will be open until they find the right candidates. See link at NC FarmLink for more information and more photos.
