Foothills Farm and Foothills Farm Festival
Our Family is the 7th and 8th generation on our family farm. Many of the structures on our farm are over one hundred years old. Our farm currently producers corn, soybeans, and timber, but has a long history in tobacco dating back two hundred years. Following along with my Grandpa all over the farm, I learned that farming was hard work and much more than a job, it was a way of life. Growing up with my Grandpa, Robert L. Martin, and his depression-era friends, it was the best experience a young boy could ever ask for.
The Foothills Farm Festival is our family’s way of preserving Stoke County's rural agriculture heritage for generations to come. At the festival, we demonstrate local farming techniques from years ago as well as modern-day agriculture. The event allows children and adults to have a hands-on learning experience that they will never forget. From riding in the mule-drawn wagon to shelling corn, it gives everyone the opportunity to better understand the work and dedication that goes into agriculture. With your help we can show today’s generations the importance of farming as well as the progress and innovation of industry that feeds us all.
We would like to invite folks to join us on Saturday, October 2, 2021, for our 2nd Annual Foothills Farm Festival. The festival will be a celebration of southern Appalachian heritage! Look forward to seeing old-fashioned farming, harvesting, and folklife demonstrations, such as corn husking, woodworking, and wool spinning! Also, don’t forget to take a look at the antique tractors, engines, corn pickers, combine, mule-drawn wagons, and plowing! We hope you sit and stay awhile to enjoy some live bluegrass music while having a homemade biscuit paired with molasses or apple butter! Come hungry as there will be several food vendors to grab a bite from!
Foothills Farms also would like to invite local vendors with homemade or homegrown items (non-commercial items), agricultural exhibitors, and sponsors to participate in our festival.
