CANCELED! 2025 Wool Pool - Stokes County

(Updated: July 29, 2025, 5:46 a.m.)
CANCELED - The third annual Piedmont NC Wool Pool will NOT be held on Tuesday, August 12. The New River Valley Sheep club doesn't have the labor to handle the baling of the wool and the mill will only accept wool that is baled.  We hope to hold this event in 2026, so the requirements for that can be found below.
  • There is no minimum amount of wool to participate.
  • Wool must be DRY, with no berries, and should be relatively clean.
  • No black or colored fiber will be accepted.
  • Wool will be weighed at drop-off and you will receive a receipt.
  • Prices in 2024 were:
    • $0.15 for short fibers
    • $0.30 white and black-face
    • $1.20 Merino, Rambouillet, and other premium wools.
  • Payments will be mailed to you in a few weeks.
  • No alpaca wool.
In addition to selling wool in the Wool Pool, producers may also be eligible to claim a Loan Deficiency Payment or LDP with the Farm Service Agency (FSA), but that MUST be filed prior to August 12. Learn more. According to the American Sheep Industry Association the LDP payment for ungraded wool will be $0.40 per pound.

Producers will need to complete items 1-4  of this form, and sign and date 5a-5c on the first page prior to losing beneficial interest in their wool. Once they lose beneficial interest,  the producer will complete page 4 Part M, N and sign and date Part P 83A & 85; FSA will need a copy of the receipt showing how many lbs. of wool sold, and head count total.

If your farm has never been to the FSA, you will also need to complete an AD-2047 form.

If you can’t make it on August 12, please contact your local County Livestock Extension Agent to see if you can coordinate drop-off with someone else, or contact April Bowman, or 336-593-8179.
