The Stokes County Cattlemen's Association held its first Beef Bash on October 13th, 2023. The community came together to taste delicious local beef, network with Stokes County cattle producers, and celebrate local agriculture. The digital age has ushered in an era of unlimited availability of information on all topics, including agriculture. Members of the Stokes County Cattlemen's Association organized this event in hopes of opening a dialogue between farmers and consumers in response to misinformation regarding agriculture. The event was held at Dragon Glass Winery in Madison, NC, and featured beef dishes from three local farms: Ridgecrest Farms (The Bray Family), Mooreland Farms (The Moore Family) , and Monte Vista Farm (Ab Boxley).
The association worked to ensure that all aspects of this event showcased local businesses and talent. Town Fork Mobile Kitchen, owned and operated by Aaron and Shannon Shaver, prepared the fabulous beef menu: birria tacos, brochettes, and meatballs. Side dishes were donated by Dr. Katherine and Mr. Mark Thrower, and Dr. Caroline Beam prepared and donated an assortment of desserts.
Local band, Cooks Wall (Nathan and Thomas Kiger), brought the tunes throughout the evening. Over 100 community members attended this event, with many of those not being directly involved in agriculture. The event would not have been successful without the generous donations of several sponsors. The association is proud of the success of this event and looks forward to promoting Stokes County and NC agriculture in the future.
