Daily Basket Spotlight

It's a beautiful day to spotlight Daily Basket of Germanton! They're a great supporter of N.C. Cooperative Extension - Stokes County Center. Check them out!

Daily Basket is a grocery and garden market that was established in 2018 in Germanton, NC with a goal to support local farmers and makers and provide quality products to the local community.

The store is owned by Tiffany Montgomery, Miles Montgomery, and Alex Younts – all born and raised in the Walnut Cove area. After living in Wilmington and then Greensboro, Miles and Tiffany found themselves wanting more land for gardening and recreation as well as a closer proximity to family. Alex lived in the Raleigh area for a few years but also found himself migrating back to Stokes County after college. His family owns Younts Wine Farm in Walnut Cove and the wines are sold exclusively at Daily Basket. All three owners say their experiences living in other parts of the state inspired and shaped the idea for Daily Basket. They agree that Stokes County is a special place unlike any other and have a shared goal to attract visitors and locals alike to experience all the county has to offer.

Most days you’ll find Miles running and managing the store with regular staff support. Alex and Tiffany stay active with other behind-the-scenes responsibilities like marketing, facilities maintenance, operations, bookkeeping, and managerial duties.

The space has an old-fashioned country store feel, but you will quickly find that the offerings span far beyond the typical glass bottle soda and moon pie (although they have those too!). At Daily Basket, they prioritize products grown or made in Stokes County and the Piedmont Triad area first. If they can’t find the selection locally, then they widen their search to North Carolina and only stretch out of state when necessary. This mindset creates a unique shopping experience, giving customers options they may not find anywhere else.

The grocery lineup includes produce, coffee, ice cream, meat, chicken salad, pimiento cheese, craft beer and wine, frozen meals, snack foods, and much more.

In the garden section, Daily Basket has a wide variety of plants and flowers sourced mainly from two Stokes County greenhouses as well as smaller farmers in the area. They also sell all the essentials for planting and potting: dirt, fertilizer, straw, pine needles, garden tools, seeds, and more.

In addition to spring plants and vegetables, other seasonal items include pumpkins, deer apples, and Christmas trees. And of course, you can’t have a store called Daily Basket without gift baskets. While there are pre-made options available to order online or in-store, customers have the option to build their own with any combination of local products available.

As COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, Miles, Tiffany, and Alex plan to restart their special events. Live music, wine, and beer tastings, vendor demonstrations, workshops, and more are in the works for later in 2021 and beyond. Follow them on Facebook or Instagram to keep up with the latest happenings.
