Fire-Resistant Landscaping

To start this process, ask yourself, Is your home or community tucked into the woods or surrounded by natural shrubs or woodlands? If the answer is yes, we’ve got the infomation for you!

What Is Fire-Resistant Landscaping?

Fire-resistant landscaping involves creating “defensible space,” or selecting, placing, and maintaining plants and other landscape features around your home in a way that helps make your home less vulnerable to damage or loss from a wildfire.

This new publication, “Fire-Resistant Landscaping in North Carolina,” goes over how to reduce your risk of damage from a wildfire. Along with the basics of fire-resistant landscaping, this publication introduces you to plant selection, placement, and maintenances for this type of landscaping, with some North Carolina native plants highlighted.
