Light bulbs

Some of the most common types of light bulbs are incandescent, compact fluorescent (CFL), and light-emitting diode (LED).

Incandescent:
  • Emit light and heat in all directions
  • Cheapest upfront cost, but less efficient compared to CFL and LED bulbs
  • Last around 750 hours

CFL:
  • Up to 75% more efficient than incandescent light bulbs
  • Last 10 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs
  • Emit light and heat in all directions
  • More expensive than incandescent and cheaper than LED
  • Last around 8,000 hours

LED:
  • Up to 90% more efficient than incandescent light bulbs
  • Are “directional” light sources, which means they emit light in a specific direction, unlike incandescent and CFL
  • The upfront cost is higher, but overall cost of use is less
  • Last around 25,000 hours
