Stokes Pumpkin Trial

(Updated: June 1, 2022, 9:08 a.m.)

Growing, harvesting, and storing pumpkins – there’s a lot to know and learn!

Follow the N.C. Cooperative Extension – Stokes County Center this year as we grow four varieties of edible pumpkins. Pumpkins are a member of the Cucurbitaceae family, which also includes cantaloupes, cucumbers, gourds, squash, and watermelons. Pumpkins range in size, shape, color, texture and uses. For our area, most pumpkins are planted starting in late May through early July from fields to backyard gardens. By fall they will start to make it onto front porches or dinner tables.
